To defend the harbor 2 cm air defense guns were places in the harbor and around it. A smaller anti-tank gun was used to hold off enemy ships approaching the harbor. The Widerstandsnest consist of three large air raid shelters with flak positions on top. The shelters were used to protect the work force at the harbor and are quite large, a Luftschutzbunker was a shelter for 200 men. Defensive power on Albert Pier consisted of three 2 cm Flak 38 anti-aircraft guns supported by a 60 cm searchlight and some machineguns.
The photo above shows a reminder of help to the Jersey population during the war. During the war Jersey was facing starvation. On 30 December 1944 the Swedish ship Vega arrived from Lisbon Spain as first of six ships loaded with food.
Exactly 50 years later, on 30th December 1994, this tablet was revealed.
