The Westwall is a German defensive line opposing the French Maginot line. The Westwall stretched from Kleve on the Dutch border along Germany’s western border to Weil am Rhein at the Swiss border. It was 630 kilometers long and had more than 18000 bunkers. It had tunnels, tank traps, mine fields, machine gun nests and barbed wire fences. It was known by the US and British forces as the Siegfried Line.
