History

This airplane was the 155th Spitfire ever built by Supermarine at Southampton in1939, of the 20350 built in 24 Marks (variants), and had its maiden flight on 21 April in 1939. It was taken on strength with serial number K9942 in the Royal Airforce (RAF) and was transferred to 72 Basutoland Squadron, RAF Church Fenton in Yorkshire and flew during the Battle for Dunkirk and it attended the early stages of the Battle for Britain

On the 5th of June 1940 it was damaged when returning from a patrol and landed wheels up. It was not able to get back into battle shape, it was repaired and set aside for museum purposes.
This specific 155th build Supermarine Spitfire Mk I flew thirty-two operational sorties before the Battle of Britain with an airframe time of 1070,45 hours.

The Spitfire was piloted by one man, it had a length of 9,12 meter and a wingspan of 11,23 meters with an height of 3,89 meters. Its Rolls-Royce Merlin III engine gave it a maximum speed of 582 km/h and a combat range of 400 kilometers. It was armed with eight 0.303 Browning machine guns.
