This German strongpoint on the Atlantic Wall, Stützpunkt 120a Sauerland, lies behind the dunes at the Wissant beach in France. Two bunkers lie at the side of a lake, a former Luftwaffe airfield used during the Battle for Britain in 1940.

The Regelbau 637 Meßstelle für Heeres-Küsten-Batterie, a measuring point for army coastal batteries, seems to be tipping over into the water, together with an Regelbau 600 Geschützstellung für 5-cm Kw.K. In the Wissant area the Germans installed four large 15 cm SKC/28 guns henche the Regelbau 637.
The Regelbau type 600 is a bunker with an open bedding on the roof. In this bed was a piece of artillery with a caliber of 5 cm anti-tank gun (Kw.K). The underlying crew quarters was manned by 1 non-commissioned officer and 5 soldiers. The bunker had a length of 10 x 9.90 meters and was 6 meters high. The Regelbau the Type 637 was a gauge position which had an additional function for a fire control post. In addition to the room where the measurements were taken, the bunker also had room for the operating staff. The bunker had a length of 11.30 by 8 meters.

Artillery observation post with tank tower (level with the ceiling), a single-floor structure).
This was an observation bunker for the. The bunker crew consisted of 2 officers and 6 non-commissioned officers and men. The length of the bunker was 14.60 by 12 meters and had a height of 4.10 meters.
Stützpunkt 120a Sauerland was built in 1942 and after the airfield was not in use anymore it turned into trenches and barbed wire defences with minefields and an anti-tank ditch. In 1944 the German abandoned Stützpunkt 120a Sauerland.

Park your car nearby and walk towards the small lake. The bunkers are easily spotted.
