This is a M4A4 (T) Sherman tank fitted with a short barrel 75 mm gun. The additional “T” designation stands for “Transforme” (French for modified) and means it was modified and used after World War Two by the French Army.
The tank has extra armored plates welded on its hull to protect the co-drivers position, the driver position and the ammo storage racks.

The key distinguishing feature of the M4A4 (T) was its V-8 Chrysler Multibank engine, a 30.8-liter, 500 horsepower engine, which was used as a cost-effective alternative to the more powerful engines used in other Sherman variants. The engine consisted of five smaller inline engines mounted together, making the vehicle’s powertrain more complex but offering a solution to manufacturing difficulties faced by the U.S. military during the war.
The M4A4 (T) had a 75mm M3 gun, which was effective against German armor during the early years of the war. It was also equipped with thicker armor compared to other tank variants, providing improved protection for the crew.
The M4A4 (T) was used primarily by British, Indian, and Free French forces and was involved in key campaigns, such as the Normandy landings and operations in Italy. Although the engine was not as reliable as other models, the tank’s mobility, firepower, and armor made it a valuable asset in the Allied war effort.
