This German heavy armored reconnaissance vehicle was produced from 1937 until 1943, during this period 607 units were produced. The eight wheeled vehicle had four wheel drive and could reach a speed of 90 km/h. It had two steering wheels and driver seats, facing both front and rear, and the Schwerer Panzerspähwagen could reach its high speed both ways. An easy way to get out of troubled situations.
This early version had only 10 to 14 mm frontal armor and 8 mm side armor. This is why an extra metal sheet of 10 mm is placed in front of the truck, to give it more protective armor up front. The Sd.Kfz. 231 had a 2 cm KwK 38 and a MG 34. It had a crew of 4, and this specific Sd.Kfz. 231 was made in 1938 and is the only one Sd.Kfz. 231 left in the world.
Later versions, like the Sd.Kfz. 234, had an upgraded engine, a top speed of 100 km/h and upgraded armor and gun.
