In Yekaterinburg Russia we stumbled upon the Military Museum of the Volga in the Ural district. During World War Two the Russian authorities decided to rebuild the weapon factories behind the Ural mountains, out of harm’s way. Behind the mountains the industry was safe from German bomber attacks. This period made the town vivid with factories and employees and made the populations behind the Ural Mountains grow.
The museum was set up in the officers house of this district in 1959, it was open for public and told the glory of the great patriotic battle. In 1987 the military artists joined the museum next to the display of weaponry. Today the museum has more than 2000 objects and is one of the largest military museums in Russia. It tells about the great civil war and the Great Patriotic War or better known to the west as World War Two with a focus on the Ural Divisions of the Soviet Army.
