Hawker Hurricane Mk. IIC – British Fighter Plane


This Hawker Hurricane Mark IIC was built in 1944 and from 19 March it flew with the RAF with serial number LF738. The Hurricane Mk. IIC received new wings and the machine gun armament was replaced with four 20 mm Hispano Mk. II cannons, two per wing. The new wings included hardpoints for a 500 or 250 lb. (230 or 110 kg) bomb or extra fuel tanks.
In 1944 the Hurricanes performance was inferior to the Germans Fighters and its role changed to ground-attack aircraft, referred to as Hurribomber.
The Hurricane IIC also served as an intruder and night fighter and fighter-bomber. In total 4751 Mk. IIC hurricanes were built between February ’41 and July ’45.

It received serial number LF38 on 16 July 1945 it got a Maintenance Serial: 5405M RAF and it did not take long for the Hurricane to become a static display.

Specification Hurricane Mk. IIC

The Hawker Hurricane Mk. IIC was a single seat fighter with a top speed of 550 km/h. It was 9,83 meters long with a wingspan of 12,19 meters and 4 meter height. It had a Rolls Royce Merlin XX – V12 liquid-cooled piston engine with 1185 hp and a three bladed propeller. Its maximum range was 970 kilometers.

It had four 20 mm Hispano Mk. II cannons, two per wing. And carried two 250 lb. or two 500 lb. bombs.
