The Fire Control Tower of the Schleswig-Holstein Battery
After the Battle of Hel, after the Polish forces on the peninsula gave up the fight, the German army took over the defensive positions on the peninsula. They started to strengthen defences with three huge gun emplacements. Three 40,6cm SK/34C guns with a barrel length of 20 meters each and a reach of 56 km, which was sufficient to defend the bay of Danzig.
To guide fire from these so-called Adolf Guns a fire control tower was added to the Gun Battery.

Visit
The fire control tower is 9 stories and has a huge magnifier / rangefinder on the 10th floor. Today it is a museum and for a small fee you can walk up the stairs for a nice view over the island. Inside you can see items, drawings and photos in the cambers on all floors. The railroad in front of the building still has its original tracks from 1943.
