The 76 mm Divisional Gun M1942 (ZiS-3) was a Soviet field gun widely used during World War II. Designed by Vasily Grabin, it combined the barrel of the F-22 USV with the carriage of the 57 mm ZiS-2, creating a highly effective, lightweight, and mass-producible artillery piece. It had a caliber of 76.2 mm, a maximum range of 13.3 km (8.3 mi), and a rate of fire of 25 rounds per minute by a trained crew of 7. The ZiS-3 could fire high-explosive, armor-piercing, and canister rounds, making it effective against both infantry and armored vehicles. Weighing 1,160 kg (2,557 lbs) in combat, it was easily towed and maneuverable.
With over 103,000 units produced, the ZiS-3 became the most widely used Soviet divisional gun, praised for its simplicity, durability, and effectiveness in battle. The Zis-3 gun was also used in the SU-76 Assault Gun, a combination of the Zis-3 gun and a T-70 light tank.
